Membership Examination of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

Overview

The MRCOG exam is a three-part assessment for doctors who wish to specialize in obstetrics and gynaecology. It is internationally recognized as the gold standard qualification in O&G and a passport to career progression. The exam evaluates the skills, knowledge, and clinical behavior of the candidates. The MRCOG qualification is made up of three parts, details of which are provided below.

MRCOG Part 1:

Covers the basic and applied sciences relevant to the clinical practice of O&G. Consists of two written papers, each with 100 questions in the format of single best answers (SBAs). Candidates have a total of 200 questions to answer in the Part 1 exam. Eligibility and key deadlines for booking the MRCOG Part 1 exam are essential to know.

MRCOG Part 2:

Assesses the application of knowledge in clinical scenarios. Candidates demonstrate their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. The MRCOG Part 2 exam is a critical step in the MRCOG journey.

MRCOG Part 3:

A clinical assessment of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies. Passing the MRCOG Part 3 exam leads to the award of the membership of the College (MRCOG). Successful completion of all three stages is required for MRCOG membership.

Assessment of Training (AoT)

A requirement for entry into the MRCOG Part 3. Candidates must have their training assessed to confirm eligibility for registration. AoT ensures that candidates meet the necessary criteria for the MRCOG Part 3 exam or the MTI scheme.
